Rural Fuel and Energy Advice
Calor FREE Project
Tackling fuel poverty and promoting energy efficiency are high priorities for CCB. We are working on a project sponsored by Calor FREE (FREE – the Future of Rural Energy in England), which aims to help tackle fuel poverty in off-gas grid, rural communities.
A household in fuel poverty is defined as one which spends more than ten per cent of its income on energy bills. The NEA (National Energy Action) estimates that more than one in every four rural households are struggling to keep their homes warm, and that there are now approximately 6.5 million households in fuel poverty in the UK.
The project aims to provide households with information and guidance on energy saving options available including; cost savings and income maximisation, insulation and grants available, and common sense practical tips on saving energy.
Helen Dean, Project Support Worker at CCB is planning events and advice sessions on fuel poverty, and on reducing household fuel and energy bills. The project is concentrating on West Berkshire, as indices show there is a higher prevalence of those in fuel poverty in that area. CCB is also working with Local Authorities, Parish Councils and other stakeholders to raise awareness of fuel poverty within Berkshire.
