Is there deprivation in Rural Berkshire?
On Monday September 27th at Maidenhead Town Hall, CCB and the Berkshire Rural Forum are holding a FREE half-day conference entitled 'Deprivation in Rural Berkshire: Sorting out the Facts from the Figures'. The conference (9.30am - 1.00pm) will explore new ways of looking at official statistics that will support a better understanding on the needs of our rural population.
In the current economic climate, it has become even more important to accurately target services to ensure that those most in need, regardless of their location, get access to vital services and support. Agencies of all kinds can not afford any inefficiencies in the way their services are delivered.
The Rural Share of Deprivation methodology was developed following a realisation that many deprived people, particularly those living in rural areas, do not live in the most deprived areas as identified by the Indices of Multiple Deprivation (IMDs). IMDs rely on identifying areas where the proportion of people suffering deprivation are highest, regardless of the actual numbers of deprived people living there.
This new method of interpreting the data available to us gives a much more realistic picture of the locations of deprived people, allowing better targeting of services. It also provides an extremely accurate description of the kinds of issues facing people at a local level, enabling the community itself the opportunity to get involved, understand the relevant issues and have some say over how they may be addressed.
This event will showcase the rural share of deprivation model and enable participants to gain an understanding of how the techniques can facilitate more accurate targeting of services to those most in need. To reserve your place at this conference please click here to complete a short booking form.
