Participatory Budgeting Seminar

‘Participatory budgeting (PB) brings local communities closer to the decision-making of a public budget’

Tuesday 14th September 2010

10:30 am to 3:30 pm

Avonmouth House, 6, Avonmouth Street, London SE1 6NX

The South East Regional Empowerment Partnership is holding a Participatory Budgeting (PB) seminar. The seminar is aimed at anyone who is interested in participatory budgeting, wants to find out more about how they might start PB in their local area, and to see the way it has worked in other places in the SE.

Participatory Budgeting is now being widely practiced – more than 100 local areas in England alone have used it. And PB fits well with the new coalition Government’s ‘Big Society’ agenda and its emphasis on involving local people in tough budget choices.

The purpose of the seminar is to provide information and guidance on how participatory budgeting can work in your area. There will also be discussion about how participatory budgeting fits with local issues/challenges and demonstrations of how PB projects have already been successful in the South East.

The seminar is open to local councils, police forces, health bodies and Local Strategic partnerships, as well as community/voluntary/third sectors within the South East region.

Speakers include: Davy Jones (National Participatory Budgeting Unit) and leaders of local PB projects in, Adur & Worthing, Isle of Wight, Kent & Southampton.

The event is free of charge, however, places are limited, therefore please ensure you register your attendance so we can send out further information prior to the event and for administrative/catering* purposes.
