Half-Day Autism Awareness Workshop
Wokingham Mencap has been appointed by the Borough Council to improve awareness, knowledge and understanding of autism amongst local service providers and other professionals.
As the person appointed by Mencap to deliver the training programmes I am pleased to advise the first three dates of our Half-Day Autism Awareness Workshop.
These have been devised after extensive consultations into content - plus a pilot course from which extensive feedback was gained - and we very much hope that you feel the course is suitable for you and your staff. Details are as below:
Course title: Half-Day Autism Awareness Workshop
Description: A training session for people who work with adults with autism and who need a greater knowledge and understanding. The workshop takes an in-depth look at the characteristics of autism and outlines strategies for support and behaviour management.

Please note:
Voluntary Action Wokingham Borough training is only for voluntary and community groups active in Wokingham Borough as we are funded by LAA grants. Where space permits I can offer places to other delegates but this is only on a provisional basis and the fee charged would be much higher to reflect the true cost of the training.
DEVELOPING PARISH PARTNERSHIPS
The Community Council for Berkshire is running a course for Rural Community Council Community Development Workers faced with the challenges of developing collaborative partnerships within rural communities. The workshops will take place over two days on the 12th October and 9th November 2009 10.30am - 4.30pm at The Soroptomist Club London. The course is free unless there is non-attendance when a charge of £30 per session will be made.
The workshops will allow participants to build on their existing community development skills but will also tackle and develop solutions to some of the barriers preventing successful parish partnerships.
At the end of the 2 day course you will have:
- Explored the options and benefits of collaborative working for organisations within rural communities
- Strengthened your partnership development skills
- Acquired some new practical tools and approaches
- Taken part in a recognised course funded by Capacity Builders under the Collaboration Benefits Programme
- Be able to run courses yourself which can generate income for your organisation
Delegates must attend both workshop dates to receive recognition under the Collaboration Benefits Programme.

Community Sector Trading – Online Training
The Community Sector Trading project is an innovative training programme delivered by the Development Trusts Association. It utilises Web 2.0 technology to deliver online workshops in a ‘virtual classroom’. Development workers gain the practical skills required to support frontline organisations with their trading activities. They achieve this by working alongside staff from frontline organisations to develop real business plans. (Provided courtesy of RAISE)
