Community Planning Conference 2010

CCB and West Berkshire Partnership Celebrate Community Successes with  ‘Best Ever’ 2010 Community Planning Conference

All the presentations, workshop notes, details of market place participants, Highlights of 2009-10, photos and the creative capture of the conference can now be found on the community planning conference  site.

CCB with the support of the West Berkshire Partnership, organised a packed out Community Planning Conference on 6th March at Chieveley Village Hall. It attracted 90 West Berkshire delegates from 23 communities and 17 local agencies. The aim of the conference was to promote and celebrate the many successful community projects to come out of community plans.

Elaine Cook, Chief Executive of CCB explained:

“Saturday’s conference was about communities and agencies making a real difference together. There is so much pressure on villages - with shops, post offices and pubs closing all the times.  This makes it more important than ever for communities to plan for the future and take up the chance to maximise future opportunities. Communities need a vision for their future – and this conference provided some really useful advice on how to make the vision a reality.”

Organiser Sarah Ward, CCB Community Planning Development Worker designed an interesting day with workshops on some of the important ‘big issues’ communities will  face in the coming years.  Topics as diverse as ageing communities, the economic impact of the 2012 Olympics, funding sources and how to “green our communities” were included on the day.  A film made by young people from Aldworth about the  past, present and future of their community was screened – to highlight the arts as a way to stimulate young people into thinking about where they live. The whole conference was creatively captured on video, by artist Simon Jardine.

Sarah Ward commented: “Feedback from participants has been really great – and included comments from young people who attended – who said that it was an excellent, interesting day, from which they learned a great deal.  It has really been a superb day – and my thanks go out to everyone who attended and made it happen for the Community Planning Conference 2010.”
