We all have the right to be part of a united, collective and prosperous community. We aspire to be part of active communities that have a strong sense of identity, community spirit, common goals and neighbourliness.
In the current climate of a weakened economy, increasing social inequalities and growing environmental challenges it is becoming hard to empower individuals and groups of people to effect change in their own communities.
Social Capital is the 'glue' that helps people, organisations and communities to work together towards common goals. High social capital supports citizenship, neighbourliness, social networks, shared values and community involvement.
Through a combination of workshops, case studies and presentations 'Common Goals, Different Attitudes' will look at the evidence and experience of how building Social Capital will strengthen, galvanise and improve the communities in which we live.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has" Margaret Mead
