World's Biggest Coffee Morning
If you are looking for an opportunity to get involved with volunteering or fundraising but not sure how then Macmillan Cancer Support may be able to provide a simple and fun way to make a difference.
The leading cancer charity are encouraging people of all ages to take part in this years World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event on September 24th. People all over the UK have been taking part in the event for 20 years, by holding their own coffee mornings, and inviting friends, families, colleagues and neighbours to attend. Last year 2 million people took part, raising 7.9 million for the charity, by eating cakes, drinking coffees and catching up with their friends.
One of the main appeals of this event is its simplicity. It can be very easy to organise; once you have registered Macmillan send you a pack with invitations, a collection box and lots of other promotional materials to help you make the most of your event.
Another great thing about this event is its flexibility. While the official date is 24th September, you can hold you coffee morning whenever it suits you. What’s more if a traditional coffee morning doesn’t appeal to you, then choose a different event to hold. A garden party, pub quiz, or golf day are all simple events to hold that can be a great way to fundraise. Volunteer for Macmillan Cancer Support, Nicola Ranson says “Absolutely everyone can join in, and if you don’t like coffee there are plenty of other ways to get involved, by doing something different! One in three of us will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in our lives, and when it does, Macmillan is there to offer help and support. That’s why I feel it’s important to be part of this nationwide event that really does help to make a difference”
Macmillan Cancer Support aim to reach every person with cancer and be there throughout their cancer journey. For somebody living with cancer, the difference between a good day and a bad day can often be a matter of something small: being able to talk to somebody who understands, receiving information about financial support available to them, visiting an information and support centre and getting an answer to a question that’s been bothering them. Taking part in World’s Biggest Coffee Morning can help Macmillan to help thousands more people to have a good day.
World’s Biggest Coffee Morning isn’t the only way to get involved with Macmillan. In addition to holding a coffee morning, there are plenty of volunteering opportunities to suit your individual needs and availability. Whether it’s holding a collection, becoming an e-campaigner, volunteering in your local Macmillan office, or starting a fundraising group, you can find out more information by contacting the regional head office at Berkshire@macmillan.org.uk or Hampshire@macmillan.org.uk, or by calling 01264 343811.
