Testimonials
everybody matters training is driven by feedback from participants and purchasers. So here's what they have to say:
everybody matters training provided a structured and focused approach
David Bullock - Police Community Support Officer
Before coming on the everybody matters course I had already set up a Homeless Project to tackle Homelessness issues in Windsor.
However, I was really learning on my feet. everybody matters training was the first formal training I had undertaken in relation to engaging with and supporting hard to reach groups.
everybody matters helped massively in enabling me to take a more structured approach. It has encouraged me to look more broadly at links which I can make to support homeless people. As a result, we have linked with social work teams, councillors and charitable groups.
The (Ormerod) 5 Step Model provides a focus, is adaptable and can be used at any stage as the project develops. It helps to keep us on track in realising the outcomes we are looking to achieve, evaluating our progress and adapting the plan according to the needs of the people we are looking to support.
Since the everybody matters training, our project continues to grow, branch out and other initiatives have been introduced.
We are providing opportunities for voluntary work in dog homes and organising workshops. We are also looking at registering as a charity to attract more funding for our projects.
"everybody matters training gave me the confidence to challenge my perceptions of cultural barriers"
Neighbourhood Community Warden - Newbury
Before attending the everybody matters training, I had been looking to engage with ethnic minority communities within my area. In particular the Chinese community was one which felt closed to me.
Attending the training encouraged me to look at my perceived barriers to engaging with Chinese families, in particular the language barrier. I was also concerned about communicating in ways appropriate to their culture.
Working through the (Ormerod) 5 Step Model and considering a variety of options regarding the engagement process definitely gave me the confidence to move forward and increase reach within the community.
On returning to work I felt confident enough to approach Chinese families and start speaking to them. It transpired that the language barrier was not as great as I had thought and I am now regularly in contact with three families on the estate.
During the training I was also inspired by work already undertaken in other areas with people who may at first appear to be harder to reach (eg homeless people in Windsor).
I am also planning to go to Windsor at the invitation of another participant on the course. I hope to learn more about the positive outcomes already achieved with homeless people in this area.
everybody matters training provided opportunities to consider the engagement process from different perspectives
Helen Bacon - Development Worker
Centre for Empowering Practice
I work with organisations to support implementation of the personalisation agenda and how these services can be personalised for those with multiple needs.
This includes services for people who are in supported housing, homeless or rough sleepers, as well as with people with offending backgrounds, substance abuse, those fleeing domestic abuse and people with mental heath needs.
I attended everybody matters training because I wanted to increase and strengthen my engagement with both service providers and service users, to build trust and increase participation.
Using the (Ormerod) 5 Step Model enables me to work in a more structured way, breaking down issues that appear overwhelming into a process which becomes manageable. Appreciating the barriers to meaningful engagement and looking for common purpose makes a real difference to the way in which I approach engagement.
It has also helped me to be more realistic about time constraints and what can be achieved in both the short and long term.
everybody matters training provides a solid foundation for newly qualified staff
Workforce Development Officer,
Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council:
everybody matters training has been a key part of our induction programme for newly qualified social workers, here at Blackburn with Darwen.
The training has helped social workers with less than a year of experience, to provide evidence of achieving their learning goals, as part of a national pilot for the Children's Workforce Development Council.
I have no doubt that the learning they take from the everybody matters course, will help them throughout their social work careers.
