New UK Grant to Help Older People Manage Their Money

Comic Relief has launched a new interim Older People’s grant programme for 2012 that will support projects across the UK.

As part of its commitment to supporting older people, Comic Relief is providing grants for projects that will help people 65 years and older to cope with the difficulties of the current financial environment.

Voluntary and community organisations may apply for grants from £10,000 upward for projects that help older people build their knowledge and skills in order to manage their money more effectively. Projects should ensure older people have access to good, independent financial advice and learn how to become aware of and avoid financial scams and abuse and deal better with cold homes.

Comic Relief is particularly keen that older people should be supported to manage the rising fuel and food prices. It also wants to see more partnerships develop between voluntary sector organisations and banks, building societies, credit unions, energy companies and others with the resulting recognition and response to older people’s needs.

There will be two funding rounds in 2012, each with a two-stage application process.

The first round is open and currently accepting applications. Stage One applications are due by 13 February 2012. Those who are invited to submit a full proposal will have until 31 March to do so. The second and final round will run from 10 April to 8 June 2012.
